Biography of Ivor Powell
Ivor Powell, the oldest football coach in the world, was a former Welsh footballer who played for eight different Welsh teams before transitioning into coaching.
In 2004, he was inducted into the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame alongside snooker player Terry Griffiths and cricketer Tony Lewis. He is also listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest football coach in the world, having worked as a coach for 55 years by the time he turned 90.
Early Life and Football Career
Ivor Powell was born in Gilfach, Bargoed.
He initially worked in local mines before later pursuing a career in sports. He played in the South Wales League for Bargoed and in August 1936, he was invited to London to try out for Queens Park Ra
